Root: ك م ن
hidden, concealed, latent, underlying, lying low
“But the idea itself lies hidden in the depths of the vast majority of the believers.”
This root does not appear in the holy Quran.
We can find it in the narrations from Ahlulbayt. The word كامن is often used in the words of ahlulbayt for Al-Shaitan (Satan) or sometimes for hidden evil. For example:
“One who stirs up hidden evil, (will find that) therein is his destruction”.
Root: ز م ن
lasting, enduring, lingering, old, inveterate, chronic (disease)
“We all hear about the chronic debates between the Islamic sects.”
This root does not appear in the holy Quran.
This is a common root and appears extensively in the narrations from the ahlulbayt. The word زمان (time, age) for example is seen repeatedly with reference to the 12th Imam.
The word مزمن itself is less common, but we do find its occurrence in the narrations. For example:
It is narrated: A woman came from Kan’aan came to ‘Isa with a son who had a chronic (disease) – [Stories of the Prophets]
Root: ل ي ق
more / most suitable, more / most appropriate, more / most proper, fitter
This word is اسم التفضيل for the very common root. The word لائق is the اسم الفاعل and is well known to even those who speak South Asian languages as meaning appropriate and well suited.
This common root is also absent from the Holy Quran, but can be found in the narrations from the ahlulbayt. The exact word, (alyaqq) appears frequently. For example:
A dua has been narrated which Imam Al Sajjad used to recite in Qunoot. A part of this dua where the Imam is addressing Allah states:
And that your deliberation is the most similar thing to your generosity, and the most suitable (thing) to how you have described yourself.
